we are into 2010 and into the next part of our school career

'O' level results will be out on the 11/1/10
The form to choose the schools have to be submitted by the 15/1/10
the result of our school will be out on the 27/1/10
First Feb will be our first day of school, well at least for JC

Dear Weiyi/4-1/anyone who can answer me,
Q1. Whats the format for Geog Paper? Since we are tested on Tourism, Development and Food, does it mean we will have 3 main qns (Each 25mks) and we only have to pick 2?

Q2. For SS and Hist, For the 2 essay questions, will we get 2 essays per theme?
(Just to illustrate my point: Theme 1: HITLER. (2 ESSAYS ON HITLER, CHOOSE 1)
Theme 2: STALIN. (2 ESSAYS ON STALIN, CHOOSE 1)

is this the case? or am i wrong?

"it" is darm bias lor for both the papers she gave well i think is the most of us lower marks Than the other but since it is a same paper we should not be too far off AND "it" 's class definitely would hav done better and "it" will try to make the marks as high as possible

Take Note: Doodling Can Help Memory

FRIDAY, Feb. 27 (HealthDay News) -- You might look like you're not paying attention when you doodle, but science says otherwise.

Researchers in the United Kingdom found that test subjects who doodled while listening to a recorded message had a 29 percent better recall of the message's details than those who didn't doodle. The findings were published in Applied Cognitive Psychology.

"If someone is doing a boring task, like listening to a dull telephone conversation, they may start to daydream," study researcher Professor Jackie Andrade, of the School of Psychology at the University of Plymouth, said in a news release issued by the journal's publisher. "Daydreaming distracts them from the task, resulting in poorer performance. A simple task, like doodling, may be sufficient to stop daydreaming without affecting performance on the main task."
For the experiment, a two-and-a-half minute listing of several people's names and places was played for test subjects, who were charged with writing down only the names of the people said to be attending a party. During the recording, half the participants were asked to simultaneously shade in shapes on a piece of paper without attention to neatness. Participants were not told they were taking part in a memory test.

When the recording ended, all were asked for the eight names of those attending the party as well as eight place names mentioned in the audio. Those asked to doodle wrote down, on average, 7.5 names and places, while those who didn't doodle listed only 5.8.

"In psychology, tests of memory or attention will often use a second task to selectively block a particular mental process," Andrade said. "If that process is important for the main cognitive task, then performance will be impaired. My research shows that beneficial effects of secondary tasks, such as doodling, on concentration may offset the effects of selective blockade."

In everyday life, Andrade said, doodling "may be something we do because it helps to keep us on track with a boring task, rather than being an unnecessary distraction that we should try to resist doing."

Hello FOURoNers. It's tml! So, I'm doing this as part of my revision haha.

Nutrition/Nutrition in Humans

Biuret Test - Equal Amount of sample and sodium hydroxide. Add 1% Copper (II) Sulphate solution in to the solution, drop by drop. Either a blue or purple colouration. Blue means no protein present while purple means protein present.

Sources of error: Colouration can be subjective to each person.

Iodine test - Just add the iodine to the sample luh. Blue black colouration a indicator of the presence of starch.

Soures of error: Colouration can be subjective to each person.

Benedict's Test: Make a water bath. Put in equal amount of Benedict's solution into each sample before placing into the water bath. Observe the rainbow! Benedict's test is to detect reducing sugars, like maltose and glucose! Sucrose is NOT a reducing sugar

Sources of error: I dunno.

Bile Salts ---> Tested by sinking of sulfur.

If you look at the biology practical skils checklist...

Able to set up apparatus from a diagram or written instructions <---Simple.
Able to follow instructions to perform an experiment <--- QED
Able to use appropriate equipment to measure:

Volume <---Marks on measuring cylinder. 3 cm^3 is about the length of the first digit of your finger.
Temperature <--- use a damned thermometer or datalogger. Take note of the divisions
Length <--- ruler.
Time <--- Stopwatch

Able to perform experiments using the following techniques

Hydrogen carbonate indicator (what's this?)
Iodine test
Benedict's test.
Carry out a Biuret test
Carry out a ethanol emulsion test (Ethanol into test substance. Shake well. Add water. Emulsification means fats present.)
Use a microscope to view prepared slides.
Prepare slide of temporary mounts.
Prepare a specimen for drawing by cutting longitudinal and transverse or staining.
Prepare a leaf to test for the presence of starch.
Use instruments. blah blah blah.

Basically you must know how to conduct food tests and draw graphs and present your data nicely.

Since Mr Goh Say bio Spa test skill 1 skill2 is wayang wayang only, so I'd suppose instructions on how to conduct the entire experiment is given. So all we have to worry about is drawing the graphs. Remembering to place units at the headings of our tables. Ensure all lines drawn in pencil and words written in pen. Axes of graphs labelled. Graphs named.

Key sources of error. Target the usual ones.
- Colourations can be subjective.
Try not to use location of table in lab. Ms Foo say that one not 明显 enough.
- Temperature not taking at exact times, as time is needed to read temperature of each sample. Can affect readings of t. Dataloggers can be used instead.

I guess that's about all. I can't remember all the other stuff already. :( Wish everyone will achieve full marks at the SPA test on Monday :) It's another step to 10/9A1s.

Remember the food tests.
They probably might call you to identify where the substance is. Or they will tell you where the substance is. you conduct the experiment and deduce what the substance is...

so here goes.
Mouth: Saliva. Enzymes have proteins. Infer.
Stomach: acidic. Enzymes. Protein. digested here.
Pancreas, small intestine and gall bladder(I somehow feel that thi part is ging to be the part that will be tested.) : Alkaline. Got pancreatic juices. Alkaline. Digests starch and Fat and protein (everything happens here) Fats emulsified here also.

I guess that's about all. I feeling nervous.

There is a lot of homework needed to be done so i made a point to summaries them on this black friday (I might Miss out some of the Hmk so sorry)

Biology worksheet (1 graph) if u really hav no time, do the graph(Q7) first mr goh will most likely mark the graph and he will check the graph to see if u did the worksheet so...but at least do some of the others...BUT MUST DO GRAPH!OTHER QUESTION HE WON'T CHECK AT LEAST FOR LAST YEAR

E maths Paper (2 sets) well mr leong might check and he might just check if u did like that time after june there are on sharepoint <> there are BOTH questions and ans(for reference) 1 set is the same as those we took in EOY (paper 1 and paper 2) u will see 1 set from st nics(1 graph) and 1 from duman(2 graphs) in PDF

A maths (2 sets) note that St Nic's AM P1 and P2, the ones without "modified" in their filenames is dhs's but does it matter the ans are in the same word documents and only part of the paper is given as there are things that we havn't learn
similar to E maths there are paper 1(with 1 graph) and 2 for each set of each school

Physics the SPA skill 3 assignment and 1 practice paper the spa has to be done b4 the Spa period where u will conduct ur experiment the steps r to be given to ms FOOL b4 the SPA for checking so it is not dangerous

hope this clears up some fog regarding radian
well, i was confused anw

1) Arc Length [cm]= radius [cm] X angle[rad] {s = rθ}
2) Area [cm^2] = 1/2 X radius[cm]^2 C angle [rad] {A=1/2*r^2*θ}

after that would just have the conversions left lor.
π rad = 180°
360° = 2π rad
etc.

try to memorise some common radian-to-angle conversions too.
it'd be useful and faster for calculations during exams.

Degrees 0°_____30°_____36°_____45°_____60°_____90°_____180°_____270°_____360°
Radians 0 _____π/6_____π/5_____π/4_____π/3_____π/2_____ π _____(3π)/2________2π

&& tada. that's all for radian! (i think)

okie. i spent the morning reading up Ms Thian's PAINSTAKINGLY COMPILED notes. And i PAINSTAKINGLY SCRUTINISED the notes, and i found out the common kind of questions we probably would expect during the examinations, and the COMMON MISTAKE her students commit.

I would expect the SEQ to come out in either manner.

1. The questions gives u 3 factors (e.g Civilian armed force, Bilateral Relations, Defence Industry) And they ask u which is the most relevant/important

2. They give u 1 factor, and ask you the importance about it. U will be required to give another 2 factors.

So erms. study hard. haha

For the common mistake.

As class threeone, we must not be like others. We should be a cut above the rest (and i believe we are :D). Please refer to countries as HER, not IT. :D Yeps. It looks really stupid to call a country it. Names of ships are also her. she sunk, not it sunk. :S :D
